You make a very good point in bringing context here (and in your next paragraph) to the bigger picture of the publishing world. I would be tempted to read the novel because of its story. At the same time, because of the attention it has received, I know I'd be wondering how all the cackling and giggling on the part of the characters got past the editor. In a word, your thoughtful and balanced review tells me I can pass on this one.
