While I can’t say I necessarily agree with your assessment of ‘James,’ I couldn’t agree more re: not finishing a book, especially a well-reviewed, high-profile one, that doesn’t grab me. I learned about the page 69 test years ago and it has some validity, but maybe what I appreciate most here is the better test of whether a book captures my heart.
