There's simply no one like him. Sean Wilentz once said that genius of his kind comes along once a century. And your piece captures so well that thing we think of as voice (something also said about another of my singer/songwriter heroes, Leonard Cohen). It takes a certain chutzpah to pay homage to Frank Sinatra (via "Shadows in the Night.") and I challenged anyone who questioned his voice when he recorded that album. HIs voice positively aches (in a Billie Holiday way) when he sings "I'm a Fool to Want You."
