I’ve never heard of the DARE app, but you’ve certainly piqued my curiosity about it. My own exploration of meditation has brought to the teachings of Pema Chodron and Tara Brach, who are anything but doctrinaire. I now use an app called The Way, in which Henry Shukman guides you through sessions that break down the various aspects of meditation and brings it to a cohesive whole. There’s a consistency in this trio of teachers that helps me see the bigger picture of mindfulness in terms of simply being present to the moment. And despite the cliche, meditation is a journey, not a goal to fix something within. In the words of one Zen teacher, enlightenment is small moments many times. You’re right in your observation that there is no one size fits all when it comes to meditation.
